KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Dr Shalini Devi Ramachandran, crowned Mrs Malaysia World 2024, is a remarkable individual who overcame diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and hypothyroidism through disciplined lifestyle changes.
At 37 years old, the Selangor-born medical doctor, who resides in Klang, successfully reduced her weight from 124 kg to 60 kg, a testament to her perseverance and dedication.
In addition to her medical profession, Dr Shalini Devi is a certified sports nutritionist and the founder of wellness studios in both Malaysia and Singapore. She also holds a diploma in dermatology, is a fitness enthusiast, and has a strong social media presence as an influencer.
“As a medical doctor and sports nutritionist, I have always been passionate about health and wellness. My journey inspired me to advocate for lifestyle modifications, and I am proud to be a member of the Malaysian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (MSLM),” she told Bernama after her crowning at a hotel in Klang on Malaysia Day.
Dr Shalini Devi was crowned by Mrs Malaysia World 2023, Vanishaa Rameas, who ranked among the top six contestants at Mrs World 2023 and won the award for Best National Costume (Most Original) at the prestigious pageant.
Together with her husband, Dr Yuveneswara Murti, also 37, Dr Shalini Devi runs a medical clinic.
Reflecting on her Mrs Malaysia World title, she shared: “This title is not just a personal achievement but a testament to my commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Through my personal programme, I transformed my weight from 124 kg to 60 kg. The journey was challenging, but the rewards were immense.
“My passion for fitness grew over time, and I trained myself at home, eventually earning full certification as a fitness instructor across multiple disciplines. Along with a disciplined approach to nutrition, this enabled me to achieve my goals.” Dr Shalini Devi added that she is now free from her previous health conditions.
“This journey has shown me that with dedication and the right support, any goal can be achieved. I hope my story inspires others to believe in themselves and persevere in the face of challenges,” she said.
Meanwhile, Datin Harveen Kaur, National Director of Mrs Malaysia World Sdn Bhd, announced that Dr Shalini Devi will represent Malaysia at the Mrs World 2024 pageant.
“As always, we aim to break yet another record in the Malaysian Book of Records with our secret national costume, which will be revealed at the international pageant,” she told Bernama.
