KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), the largest private quaternary hospital in Malaysia, has pledged incentives worth RM75,000 via its partnership with the Rotary Club Shah Alam (RCSA) for the Save the Heart campaign.

In its statement, SMC announced that 25 underserved individuals will be offered the complimentary heart screening package, while up to 100 selected recipients will be offered the subsidised heart screening package to mark its 25th anniversary.

“The initiative was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with RCSA to support the club’s efforts to improve community health.

“With heart-related ailments continuing to be the number one killer disease amongst Malaysians, SMC is compelled to participate in the campaign by stressing the importance of accessibility to early screenings,” read the statement.

The three-month campaign, which commenced on Aug 1, will end on Oct 31.

SMC chief executive officer, Dr. Seow Vei Ken, said that the campaign initiated by RCSA will provide vital screenings to detect and prevent heart disease, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality.

He emphasised SMC’s commitment to enhancing community health and well-being, saying the partnership reflected the centre’s dedication to making a meaningful impact.

Dr. Seow said the hospital aims to ensure more individuals have access to essential healthcare services via the heart screening packages.

“Our goal is not just to treat diseases but to promote early detection and prevention, empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to lead healthier lives,” he added.

He highlighted that this campaign partnership is a testament to the hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering world-class healthcare and advancing medical excellence, both locally and abroad.

Meanwhile, the newly minted RCSA president Ruby Siah Shiew Keng welcomed the partnership with SMC to provide heart disease screening to the underprivileged community, saying the aim is to enhance community health by making screenings more accessible and empowering individuals with knowledge to lead healthier lives.

“Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Malaysia, and through this partnership, we aim to bring about significant change,” she said.

The candidates will be shortlisted by RCSA based on the outcome of questionnaires, vital signs monitoring, and preliminary heart screening.

SMC is a multi-award-winning private hospital featuring 28 Centres of Excellence and a diverse, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering personalised treatment through a holistic care approach.

The hospital was recently included in the top 250 hospitals globally in Newsweek World's Best Hospitals 2024 rankings – the first time a Malaysian hospital has made it into the list.

It has also been listed in the top 75 of Best Specialised Hospitals Asia Pacific Newsweek 2024 rankings in the Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery categories.
