02/10/2024 08:52 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) has established a Special Committee for the Rehabilitation of Followers of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), tasked with developing initiatives for restoring religious faith (aqidah).

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the committee would also coordinate educational needs, housing, and assistance for the children of GISBH followers.

"The state government will take firm action against any party committing crimes against children or engaging in practices that deviate from Islamic beliefs, to safeguard the sanctity of Islam," he said in a statement today.

He added that MAINJ would also use existing enactments and work with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) to review and make determinations regarding GISBH's status.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said 30 children and teenagers were successfully rescued during Op Global, conducted in Johor Bahru, Kluang, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, and Mersing, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ), and the Social Welfare Department (JKM) on Sept 20 and 21.

He said the rescued children were now under JKM’s care for a month, and MAINJ had allocated RM20,000 to JKM to cover their clothing and educational material needs.

According to Onn Hafiz, the operation, which involved inspections of eight GISBH premises, resulted in the detention of 29 individuals and the discovery of over 20 suspicious books and pamphlets related to Aurad Muhammadiah.

"Among those detained, eight were rearrested on suspicion of possessing books related to Aurad Muhammadiah.

"Possessing or storing publications declared illegal is an offence under the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997," he added.
