Flood Victims: Slight Increase In Kedah, Perak But Numbers Drop In Selangor Tonight

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- There was slight increase in the number of flood victims in Kedah and Perak but the flood situation in Selangor continued to improve, resulting in a drop in the number of flood victims at the Temporary Flood Relief centres (PPS).

In KEDAH, the number of flood victims in the state increased by another four victims, bringing the number of flood victims to 218 people from 68 families as of 8 pm tonight compared to 214 people from 67 families in the evening.

State Civil Defence Force Deputy Director Major (PA) Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all the victims were placed in seven temporary flood relief centers (PPS) in the Baling district.

The seven PPS opened are at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Siong, SK Seri Bayu, SK Tanjung Pari, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Parit Panjang, Dewan Kampung Banggol Deram, Surau Kampung Lahar and Surau Albarakah Tembak B.

All the victims from the four sub-districts involved were from Kampung Charuk Bakap, Kampung Parit Panjang, Kampung Tembak B, Kampung Baru, Kampung Pokok Setol, Kampung Depan Sekolah, Kampung Siput, Kampung Batu 60, Kampung Tanjung Pari, Kampung Simpang 3 Sik Jalan Weng, Kampung Banggol Deram, Kampung Bukit Sebelah and Kampung Lahar.

According to the Irrigation and Drainage Department’s Public Infobanjir website, no river in the state has recorded the danger level except that Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR bridge in Kota Setar and Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman, Kota Setar, have exceeded the warning levels.

In PERAK, the number of flood victims increased to 106 people from 30 families tonight compared to the evening count which was 99 people from 22 families who are housed at two PPS. 

 The Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee through a statement informed that the number of flood victims in SK Matang Gelugor, Matang in Taiping increased to 67 people from 19 families. 

 However the number of flood victims at PPS SK Changkat Lobak in Kerian district remains at 39 people from 11 families.

In SELANGOR, the number of flood victims who are still sheltering at PPS tonight continued to drop to 1,178 victims from 277 families compared to 1,241 victims in the evening. 

According to the InfoBencanaJKM portal, the development tonight also saw the closure of a PPS thus leaving six PPS in operation to accommodate flood victims from three districts namely Shah Alam, Gombak and Kuala Selangor. 

The PPS are Selayang Municipal Council Hall (MPS) Seri Kundang, Balai Raya Kampung Melayu Sri Kundang, Community Hall of Kampung Gombak, Kuang; Aman Village National School, Petaling District and Land Office Kenanga Hall, Shah Alam City Council Hall (MBSA) Bunga Matahari.
