BACHOK, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- For someone who spent time building houses alongside his father after completing the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM), Muhammad Nasrullah Mamat Suki, 22, from Kampung Berdang, Jeli, Kelantan never imagined that he would one day bring pride to the nation on the international stage.

Muhammad Nasrullah, the fifth of six siblings defied the odds when he won a silver medal at the WorldSkills ASEAN Singapore 2023 competition while pursuing his studies in electrical wiring at GiatMARA Jeli.

Muhammad Nasrullah said the achievement marks the beginning of his career as he strives to learn various skills and aims to prove to the community, especially the younger generation, that the vocational field can 'soar high' and change one’s destiny as well as that of their family.

"As I did not do well in SPM, I could not further my studies at the university, therefore, I decided to help my father, Mamat Suki Yaacob, 53, and work as a house builder.

"After two years of working with my father, a friend encouraged me to join GiatMARA to learn new skills, even though I had no prior skills or knowledge in the field I had chosen, which is electrical wiring," he said.

He spoke to reporters after the 37th GiatMARA Malaysia Graduation Ceremony for the Eastern Zone (Kelantan and Terengganu) at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, here, today.

Muhammad Nasrullah was among 525 GiatMARA graduates who received their certificates from GiatMARA Member of the Board of Directors, Che Rahim Daud.

Muhammad Nasrullah, who aspires to become an instructor at GiatMARA said his desire to try new things motivated him to continue to learn, although he was initially unsure of his abilities and whether the course he is pursuing would truly be beneficial.

"I am grateful that my patience and determination to study has paid off. I am now furthering my studies at GiatMARA Kota Bharu in electrical wiring," he said.
