KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysian memoriser Muhammad Rifaei Mat Zuki was among the 10 contestants who recited on the fourth day of the 64th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) at the World Trade Centre today.
The Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) said in a Facebook posting that nine other memorisers were Ibrahim Hassan Ibrahim (Portugal), Ibrahim Sow (Ivory Coast), Nouhum Hanna (Togo), Mohammad Mirshad Zubair (United Arab Emirates) and Yasser Alahmad Mohamad (Syria).
Other memorisers were Hannatu Marafi Aliyu from Nigeria, Habsatou Hamissou Boubacar from Niger, Mohamed Maolin Sulitan from Ethiopia and Moussa Abbas Hassan from Chad.
Meanwhile, eight contestants in the recitation category are set to present their recitations, starting at 8.45 pm tonight, namely Motaz Hefzi Yasin Abusnaina (Palestine), Pg. Muhamad Amirul Aiman Pg Marzuki (Brunei), Nejla Cajlakovic Efendic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ahamed Suhail Mohomed Muhuseen (Sri Lanka), Ally Mohamed Saleh (Tanzania), Mohammed Zubair Barday (South Africa), Torniyas El (Cambodia) and Chantavilay Souphanvong (Laos).
The 64th MTHQA, themed “Al-Falah Pemacu Malaysia MADANI,” officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, involved 92 participants from 71 countries, comprising 53 recitation and 39 memorisation contestants.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia, will grace the prize presentation ceremony on Oct 12.
