LABUAN, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Labuan police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have committed to forging a close partnership to strengthen integrity and address abuse of power and corruption in the region.

Labuan police chief Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim and newly-appointed Labuan MACC director Assistant Commissioner Muhammat Azis Malmod made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Muhammat Azis to the police chief at his office today.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the two agencies to bolster efforts to prevent and investigate corruption and misconduct in Labuan.

Mohd Hamizi emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards of integrity within law enforcement, noting that effective cooperation with the MACC would ensure a more transparent and accountable policing environment.

Muhammat Azis echoed these sentiments, highlighting the MACC's readiness to work closely with the police to curb corruption and promote good governance.

"This collaboration is crucial in our collective effort to root out corrupt practices and uphold the rule of law," he said.

Both leaders agreed that regular joint efforts, including sharing information and conducting joint operations, would be vital in curbing corruption and misconduct.

The partnership aims to not only address current challenges but also foster a culture of integrity among public officials and law enforcement personnel.

The move comes at a time when public trust in government institutions is paramount, with both agencies reaffirming their commitment to upholding the law and maintain public confidence.

This renewed cooperation marks a significant step in ensuring accountability and integrity in Labuan, as both the police and the MACC work together to create a more transparent and corruption-free environment.

Further meetings between the two agencies are expected as they refine strategies for combating corruption and strengthening integrity across the public sector.
