GEORGE TOWN, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The iconic ferry in Penang which was in the process of being transformed into the Penang Ferry Museum and located in the waters close to the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT), looked tilted today.

A few pictures of the tilted ferry went viral on social media and garnered a lot of attention as the ferry has a long history in Penang.

Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the SPPP has requested a detailed report on the incident from the company in charge of the Penang Ferry Museum project.

''I have been informed of this incident and understand that the company running the Ferry Museum project, namely Printhero Merchandise (M) Sdn Bhd, is taking appropriate mitigation measures,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

“The SPPP has requested for a report from Printhenro."

Meanwhile, Penang Ferry Museum curator Siti Faridah Hani Damsi when contacted said her team will issue an official statement tomorrow regarding the incident.

It is understood that the ferry sprang a leak causing water to enter it before it tilted.

On Oct 2, the media reported that the iconic Penang ferry that was being repaired and renovated was to become the Penang Ferry Museum and moved from the Bagan Dalam Slipway to SPCT.

The ferry which originally partially sunk in Bagan Dalam, near here, in 2021 is being actively restored to be turned into a museum by Printhero.

The repair work of the ferry has not been fully completed, with about 60 to 70 per cent of it done, involving major repair work and it had been towed to SPCT to complete the repair work before being placed in Tanjung City Marina.
