Penang Allocates Close To RM13 Million To Pay Allowances Of MPPK Members

09/10/2024 08:25 PM

TASEK GELUGOR, Oct 9 (Bernama) — The Penang State Government allocated close to RM13 million this year for payment of various allowances to the appointed Village Community Management Council (MPKK) members in the state.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the amount includes the Chairman’s Fixed Allowance (RM700), RM600 for the Secretary’s Fixed Allowance, and RM300 for the Treasurer’s Fixed Allowance.

Apart from the fixed allowances, a Meeting Management Allowance is paid RM100 while a Meeting Attendance Allowance of RM100 is provided for 12 meetings a year, bringing the total allocation to RM12.975 million.

He said 375 MPKK members have been appointed throughout the state, with 224 in Seberang Perai and 151 on the island side for the 2024 to 2028 term.

“The provision of these allowances not only demonstrates the State Government’s concern and appreciation for the hard work of MPKK members in conveying government policies to the community, it also ensures that the people’s welfare is protected amid rising living costs,” he said at the MPKK Appointment Letter Award Ceremony for Seberang Perai Utara (SPU), Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) and Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) for the 2024 - 2028 term at Kubang Menerong, Tasek Gelugor, here today.

Mohamad said the MPKK is the most important machinery in ensuring that the State Government's policies reach the grassroots and he expressed hope that the entrusted responsibilities will be carried out with full commitment and integrity.

He added that MPKK members not only serve as leaders at the village level, but also as representatives of the State Government who are directly involved in developing local communities. Therefore, they should lead by example in fostering unity through close collaboration with the public.

“MPKK members must work together with the people, be open and democratic, and make the community their strategic partner as this is a key element in developing their respective areas.

“Every project and initiative implemented must align with the goal of creating a prosperous, sustainable and an actively engaged society in the state’s development,” he said.

He also urged all MPKK members to work closely with their respective State Assemblyman (ADUN) and give full support in addressing community issues efficiently and effectively.

“A harmonious relationship between the community and the State Government must be maintained with integrity and a sense of responsibility. Every decision and action taken should be based on the needs and desires of the local community, regardless of background,” he said.
