KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The ‘Green Door Criteria Document’, released by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad yesterday, are guidelines in the manufacture of green door products to support the implementation of the Government Green Procurement.

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in a statement today said the document developed by FRIM and industry stakeholders will provide guidance to the industry in meeting green certification requirements, in line with global aspirations under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2030).

“This document is also important in efforts to increase energy efficiency in the production of green doors in addition to ensuring that products comply with international standards in reducing carbon emissions, increasing consumer awareness from the aspects of safety, health, quality and the environment.

“The document is also important in efforts to carry out social responsibility to ensure a positive impact on the community and environment as well as to ensure the balance of the ecosystem in the manufacturing sector," according to the statement.

Yesterday, Nik Nazmi launched the ‘Green Door Criteria Document’ in conjunction with the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2024 being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to the statement, this document has been recognised by the industry such as the Malaysian Wood Moulding and Joinery Council (MWMJC) as well as the Malaysian Timber Assocation (MTA), and will be updated periodically based on changes in current requirements.

"Various international recognition programmes and standards have been taken into account in the selection of criteria in this document.

The evaluation methodology used is based on criteria accepted from international standards as well as equivalent recognition used by other countries," said FRIM.

According to the statement, at the launch of the document yesterday, Nik Nazmi also presented certificates to companies participating in Green Door Certification namely Weng Meng Industries Sdn Bhd, Famous-Ed Sdn Bhd and Molicc System Sdn Bhd, while Furnitech Industries (M) Sdn Bhd, One-Tech (M) Sdn Bhd, Malpro Industri Sdn Bhd and Impressive Transforms Sdn Bhd received Green Furniture Certification.

In the same statement, FRIM director-general Datuk Dr Ismail Parlan said the Green Door initiative and Green Furniture Certification support the Reform Success Strategy (SKR) which is to strengthen green culture and resource sustainability through collaboration with the industry.
