Unity Week 2025 Celebration To Be Held In Penang

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The National Unity Minister and State Executive Councillors for Unity and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs meeting (MExUnity) has decided that the 2025 Unity Week (SMP) celebration will be held in Penang.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the celebration aims to foster unity and integration through selective and efficient approaches at the grassroots level to strengthen community relations and preserve the unity ecosystem.

“A heartfelt appreciation to all states for their solid cooperation in making the 2024 Unity Week (SMP) celebration a success,” he said in a statement.

Aaron, who chaired the meeting today, said that MExUnity is a platform for discussions between the minister and the state executive councillors to plan and implement efforts towards uniting the people through unity-based programmes at the national and state levels.

He said the meeting also focused on discussions regarding the Study on the Development of the Sabah and Sarawak Social Cohesion Model by a research team from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

“This study found that the level of social cohesion in Sabah and Sarawak is high. This means that ethnic, religious, and community background differences in these states are not barriers to social cohesion,” he said.

Aaron also said that a research team from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) would carry out a study on hate speech in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Aaron urged the state executive councillors to continue supporting the implementation of programmes by the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) at the grassroots level to enliven the unity aspirations based on Malaysia MADANI.
