96 Bernama Keglers Set The Lanes Ablaze In Conjunction With National Sports Day

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today held its bowling championships, organised for the first time by the Bernama Bowling Club, in conjunction with the National Sports Day at Wangsa Bowl @ One Utama to further strengthen the relationship among its staff.

Bernama Chief Executive Officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said 96 employees took part in five categories, namely team, men's and women's individual (high series) as well as the men's and women's (high game) events.

"The main objective in having the championships is to strengthen the bond of friendship among Bernama employees. At present, not everyone knows each other as their busy daily schedules see them more focused on those working in the same department.

"As such, this tournament enables them to interact with one another,” she said after officiating the launch of the championships here today.

She also said that the championships, held in conjunction with the 2024 National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebrations, involved the highest number of employees compared to previous editions.

"I hope this will be a platform among employees to strengthen bonds and take part in healthy competitions… judging from the response today, I believe we will hold it again next year,” she said.

Meanwhile, 55-year-old Muhammad Adam Jayabalan said it didn't take him long to sign up when registration opened recently.

"I decided to compete because I was keen to play with my colleagues. My wife is also a Bernama employee, so she joined up too. I used to play in the Bernama league… so, if there is a bowling event, I will join in,” he said, adding that he trained for a week for the championships.

The championships this time offered RM4,280 in total cash prizes, with the team champions taking home RM800.

Team Udang clinched the team title with 989 pinfalls while Mohd Irwan Mohd Mustaffa (346 pinfalls) and Maznah Abu Bakar (319 pinfalls) won the men's and women's individual (high series) events.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz (178 pinfalls) and Auzan Ayub (191 pinfalls) emerged triumphant in the women's and men's (high game) events.

Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus.
