Melaka Allocates RM4.64 Mln To Restore Infrastructure Damaged By Floods

ALOR GAJAH, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government has allocated approximately RM4.64 million to repair infrastructure damaged by the floods in Alor Gajah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said RM1 million was allocated for the repair of the collapsed slope on Jalan Rantau Panjang-Padang Kambing in Kampung Padang Besar while RM800,000 was allocated for the repair and strengthening of the slope of Jalan Rantau Panjang-Padang Kambing in Rantau Panjang.

He said that apart from that it involves the repair and strengthening of the slope on Jalan Masjid Tanah-Brisu in Bukit Apit here, involving an allocation amounting to RM400,000.

"It requires detailed attention to ensure the well-being of the people continues to be protected and measures to improve the affected areas will be taken immediately.

"This repair project will take about five months and will start next week," he told reporters after inspecting collapsed slopes in the three locations here today.

Also present were State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee senior chairman Datuk Rais Yasin, State Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.

Ab Rauf said the state government also approved RM2.64 million for other infrastructure repair works in the district that were affected by the floods.

"The implementation of these repair works involves departments and agencies such as the Alor Gajah District Office, the Irrigation and Drainage Department and the Alor Gajah Municipal Council," he said.

In the meantime, Ab Rauf said a total of RM393,000 was donated to 1,310 heads of households in Alor Gajah who were involved in the floods in August.
