Public Urged To Stay Vigilant Amid Weather Changes - APM

17/10/2024 04:00 PM

PORT DICKSON, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The public is advised to stay alert to weather changes that have led to flash floods in several states, including parts of Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Chief Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed said the monsoon transition phase is causing strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain, especially in the late afternoon.

“Utilise the myCuaca app to keep track of weather conditions in your area. The app is free and provides forecasts and safety measures for specific weather conditions,” he told reporters after the Civil Defence Beach Lifeguard Conference closing ceremony at Pantai Batu 5, here today.

The event was officiated by the Prime Minister’s Department deputy secretary-general (management) Datuk Dr Khairus Masnan Abdul Khalid.

Aminurrahim further said that as of this morning, 4,150 victims from 1,120 families were being housed at 38 temporary relief centres (PPS) across eight states.

Regarding the landslide in Taman Melawati, Selangor, he said seven families have been relocated to nearby PPS.

“For now, it’s still unsafe for them to return to their homes. We should not take this lightly but must always be prepared for any eventuality, as the weather remains unpredictable,” he said.
