MELAKA, Oct 18 (Bernama) – “Allah has given me this house at a time when I needed it most, especially a house designed for people with disabilities (PwD),” said Noor ‘Ainita Md Noor, 54, upon receiving the keys to her home under the Tangga Batu  Residensi Rakyat Programme (PRR).

Noor ‘Ainita, who is physically disabled and suffers from several chronic illnesses such as diabetes and spinal issues, said the good news about her new home came just as she needed to vacate her current rented home in Taman Pengkalan Indah, Alor Gajah, where she has lived for the past six years.

The single mother of two grown up children said she initially did not have high hopes of getting the house because she was only able to submit her PRR application a few days before the deadline.

"I actually submitted the application at the end of 2022, and I often prayed after my obligatory prayers to get the PRR home... I didn’t even know about PPR homes in Melaka before this.

"It was actually my friend who picked up and submitted the application form to the Melaka Housing Board, and thankfully, I was fortunate to receive this home," she told reporters.

She was met after the Tangga Batu PRR Key Handover Ceremony, officiated by Senior State Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin, and attended by Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) Deputy Secretary-General (Housing and Community Wellbeing), Suhaimi Ali @ Ahmad.

Noor ‘Ainita said her PwD unit on the ground floor of the apartment block will facilitate her movement, as she depends on a wheelchair.

Meanwhile, another PwD recipient, Nursalihin Saleh, 48, from Pantai Puteri, also expressed gratitude for having his PRR home application approved, allowing him to live with his family in their own home.

Nursalihin said that he, his wife, Siti Nur Hajar Mohamed Salleh, 45, and their three children, aged seven to 18, have been living in his late mother-in-law’s inherited home for the past 17 years.

"I have long wanted to own my own house, and when I heard about the PRR development in Tangga Batu, I took a chance. Alhamdulillah, many people helped me through the application process,” said Nursalihin, who runs a small food business with his wife in Taman Bukit Rambai..

The Tangga Batu PRR project took four years to obtain the Certificate of Completion and Compliance on Nov 17 last year. It involved the construction of 120 housing units, including two for PwD, with an overall cost of RM23.2 million.

The PRR was built on a 0.98-hectare site, with each unit priced at RM191,250. It is equipped with various facilities, including a surau, kindergarten, nursery, and playground.
