KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- The government will unveil a second 5G network as part of efforts to boost the competitiveness of the information technology sector, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government will continue to encourage the use of 5G, especially in driving industry applications of 5G ahead of Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

“Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has transitioned to private entity management after achieving over 80 per cent 5G coverage in populated areas across Malaysia,” Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said when presenting Budget 2025 today.

He also said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with a fund of RM120 million, has agreed to improve internet access in public universities, schools, military camps and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) institutions.
