IPOH, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- A total of RM1.18 juta has been allocated to 105 entrepreneurs through the Economic Empowerment Programme for Asnaf (Proper A), organised by the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) throughout this year.

MAIPk general manager of zakat distribution, Rohizan Omar, said the funds were divided into four main areas: culinary and pastry, massage and reflexology, hairdressing, and kelulut (stingless bee) farming.

“We have been running this programme since 2016, and according to the latest data, nearly 2,500 asnaf entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme.

“This programme is designed to help the asnaf community (zakat/tithe recipients) develop talents and skills that can be applied in business which can help them break free from the cycle of poverty and, ultimately, become zakat payers themselves.”

He said this during the handover ceremony of business equipment assistance and the launch of the Proreflexy Therapist Group Branding for the 2024 PROPER A Programme here today.

Rohizan said that participants selected for the programme must undergo six months of training to ensure they are fully equipped to run a business.

He said that, during this period, participants also receive a monthly allowance of RM500, which also covers accommodation facilities.

“Throughout the six months, we provide various training, advisory services, and guidance on how to properly manage finances for their business,” he said.

Meanwhile, Harisun Kassim, the owner of Humaira Training Centre, said that her company is one of the consultants appointed by MAIPk to provide comprehensive training in massage and reflexology.

She said 30 participants aged between 25 and 50 years old are participating in the training and guidance provided by her company, which began in June and will continue until the end of December this year.

“Each of them receives RM9,500, covering training fees, guidance, financial management advice, and more.

“Part of the amount is also allocated for equipment such as massage chairs, reflexology towels, batik cloth, foot massage creams and sauna herbs,” she explained.
