Budget 2025: Increase In KDN Allocation Empowers Enforcement Agencies

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- A two per cent increase in allocations for the Home Ministry (KDN) in Budget 2025 will empower enforcement agencies and further assure a more resilient and inclusive Malaysia in terms of security for all citizens of this country.

In a statement today, KDN said the budget presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday was in line with the ministry's major role in ensuring public security and order is always maintained, including strengthening the security of the country's border checkpoints.

In welcoming and appreciating the announcement, the ministry said it is also in line with the Malaysia Madani Vision which aims for all Malaysians to live with dignity including basic rights and a guaranteed quality of life.

"Overall, KDN was allocated RM19.5 billion consisting of RM15.5 billion for operating expenses (OE) and RM4 billion for development expenses (DE), which is a two per cent increase compared to the 2024 Budget of RM19.06 billion," said the statement.

According to KDN, the overall increase in KDN's allocation illustrates the important role of KDN as a catalyst of the Madani Economic framework in the context of strengthening national unity and security.

The budget shows that the government is serious about ensuring enforcement agencies continue to intensify actions to preserve the well-being of the people, combat revenue leakage, tighten smuggling control measures and increase enforcement efforts as well as integrated operations involving the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Immigration Department and other enforcement agencies.

KDN said the budget will among others assist the implementation of the border control post upgrade and the construction of a new block at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) in Wang Kelian Complex and the Baitul Mahabbah Programme will be continued with the cooperation of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and international organisations related to the drafting of a new act related to house detention as an alternative.

In addition, it also involves a total of RM2.12 billion allocation of specific assets for PDRM and uniformed agencies under the KDN to ensure domestic security and curb the increase in criminal cases in addition to the acquisition of new maritime assets under the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, namely six ships under Ship Life Extension Programme Phase 2, a Multi Purpose Mission Ship and two New Generation Patrol Ships.

In order to face the challenges of maintaining public security and order and ensuring the sovereignty of the country is guaranteed, KDN will continue to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of its services to the people and the country.
