GEORGE TOWN, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Deepavali celebration will be more joyful for nearly 2,000 children and senior citizens across the country, as they receive festive clothings in conjunction with Deepavali, which will be celebrated on Oct 31.
The festive clothes were directly distributed to school children, orphanages and elderly care homes by Malaysia’s largest Indian textile outlets, Raaji Silk Palace Sdn Bhd and Rathi Silk Palace Sdn Bhd, through their 15 branches nationwide.
Rathi Silk Palace director Datuk MA. Jinnah said the donation of traditional attire, priced between RM100 and RM150 each, has been the company’s annual commitment since 2019, aiming to bring joy to those in need, thus making their celebration even more meaningful.
“We hope that with this contribution, Deepavali this year will be brighter and more meaningful, especially for the children, while also easing their parents’ burden during Deepavali.
“Next year, we plan to donate festive clothes to over 5,000 Hindus across Malaysia,” he told Bernama after attending the Deepavali donation event at Little India, here today.
At today’s event, 115 students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Sungai Ara, SJKT Bayan Lepas, Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Tembak and SJKT Rajaji, as well as children from B40 families, received their Deepavali festive clothes.
The donation was presented by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran and Raaji Silk director Datuk L. Gandesan.
