PKNPk Focusing On Green Technology Initiatives - Redza Rafiq

24/10/2024 10:41 AM

IPOH, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) is focusing on green technology by implementing some initiatives, as it is one of the six key sectors the agency actively engages in.

Its group chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak said that green technology now features prominently in PKNPk's DNA.

He said that PKNPk is heavily involved in renewable energy projects, with one notable initiative being its subsidiary, Perak Industrial Resources Sdn Bhd, which has installed 75 solar-powered streetlights around Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah in Meru.

“This is just the next step of a larger plan, following the Menteri Besar’s directive to implement solar-powered streetlights across the state.

“Gradually, we are making progress towards reducing carbon emissions and, importantly, lowering energy costs right in our communities,” he said during a Nasi Lemak Kopi O' session here today.

He added that PKNPk is at the forefront of renewable energy initiatives, including the Large Scale Solar (LSS) project. Its subsidiary, Majuperak Holdings Berhad (MHB), is collaborating with VSD Automation Sdn Bhd to bid for LSS5 (Fifth LSS), aiming to generate 60 MW of power, with an estimated investment of RM180 million.

Additionally, MHB has secured a partnership with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Renewables Sdn Bhd to develop a 100 MW solar park on 400 acres of land.

“This project represents a RM300 million investment and will significantly enhance Perak's green energy portfolio. We are also pioneering the Hybrid Floating Solar project at the Chenderoh and Temengor dams.

“These floating solar plants will harness solar energy from the surfaces of water reservoirs while preserving the surrounding ecosystems,” he explained.

He added that Perak's wealth of natural resources positions the state for more green technology initiatives, which will support its energy needs and promote environmental sustainability.

“Perak's abundant natural resources serve as a tool to attract companies to invest in the state. These initiatives are part of our broader renewable energy strategy, representing the future of green energy in the state,” he said.

Regarding today’s event, Redza Rafiq described it as an open platform for dialogue, aimed at fostering stronger relationships between PKNPk and the media. He emphasised the critical role the media plays in effectively communicating PKNPk's initiatives to the public.
