SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance strategic cooperation in legal education, professional training, and research.

The MoU, which is expected to have a significant impact on both parties, was signed by UiTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib and Attorney General Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, representing the AGC, during a ceremony at Dewan Senat, Bangunan Canseleri, UiTM.

In his speech, Shahrin said MoU would enhance internship opportunities for students from UiTM’s Faculty of Law at the AGC, providing them with practical experience and direct exposure to real legal practices, which would prepare them to become outstanding and competitive graduates in their careers.

He said that the MoU would also greatly benefit academic staff by offering sabbatical opportunities at the AGC, paving the way for collaboration on academic activities such as research, conferences, and short courses, which would encourage the exchange of expertise between the two institutions.

“Through this MoU, top law graduates from UiTM will have the opportunity to be considered for recruitment under the Green Harvest Programme, a prestigious initiative designed to attract outstanding individuals to the judicial and legal services in the country.

“This collaboration also paves the way for joint efforts to develop legal technologies that will modernise the delivery of legal services, in line with the government’s aspirations towards digitalisation, similar to those in developed countries,” he said.

Shahrin said that another important aspect of the agreement was that AGC legal officers who met the criteria might be recognised as adjunct professors at UiTM, demonstrating the university’s recognition of their expertise and contributions to the legal profession.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Terrirudin stated that AGC was open to and welcomed collaboration with higher education institutions (HEIs) to strengthen the legal profession in the country.

He said that, in addition to providing law students and lecturers access to the department’s resources and facilities, including a comprehensive library, the AGC hoped to receive support and expertise in research from the faculty’s lecturers.

Ahmad Terrirudin noted that this collaboration could benefit the AGC by providing expertise and support for academic research, an area where they were currently facing some challenges.
