PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The 60th Annual Session and 83rd Coordinating Committee For Geoscience Programmes (CCOP) Steering Committee Meeting in Langkawi, Kedah is a strategic platform for sharing the latest geoscience applications technology.
The Nov 3-8 conference, officiated by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) deputy secretary-general (Natural Resources) Norsham Abdul Latip today, brings together 250 geoscience members from 27 countries and various international organisations.
Department of Minerals and Geosciences (JMG) director-general Datuk Zamri Ramli said the conference is a strategic platform to discuss the directions, challenges and innovative strategies in sharing knowledge for the economic prosperity and universal well-being
“Malaysia’s involvement shows the country’s commitment to the advancement of geological resource management and effective geological disaster risk reduction as well as global collaboration in climate change mitigation,” he said in a statement today.
Malaysia has been an active CCOP member since 1996 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
CCOP currently has 16 member countries, 14 cooperating partners and 19 international organisations.
Zamri said the CCOP conference is being held in three thematic sessions, focusing on three major topics: ‘Geoscience for Sustainable Future’, ‘Energy Transition’ and ‘Climate Change and Disaster Resilience’.
He said it will involve the tabling of 69 technical papers by industry players and intellectuals, policy-makers as well as local and international governmental and non-governmental bodies.
“This conference will also showcase products and services of leading companies and agencies in the field of minerals and geoscience,” he said.
