MACC Continues Probe Into Khazanah, PNB Losses

06/11/2024 08:40 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today carried out another round of checks on several premises, including the residence of a local online fashion business founding couple in the Klang Valley.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the checks were aimed at obtaining related documents and exhibits as well as assets owned by the couple to assist the graft buster's investigation into investment losses sustained by Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah) and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

“My officers followed them to their homes and other related premises for further investigation. My officers are investigating the premises owned by the couple for further inquiry purposes, such as collecting documents and so on.

“We will inform you of any further developments. So, the investigation of the two is still ongoing,” he said when contacted today.

Earlier, the couple presented themselves at the MACC headquarters here at 12.54 pm to give their statement in an investigation into the case involving an investment loss of RM43.9 million.

After almost three hours, the vehicle carrying the couple was seen leaving the MACC headquarters compound at 4.23 pm, with officers wearing MACC jackets also accompanying them in the vehicle.

Azam said the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and the process of recording the couple's statement and inspecting documents and assets continued for the second day today.

Azam also confirmed that the MACC had taken the statements of three other individuals to help in the investigation but did not divulge details.

“So far, there are three additional statements, making it nine people whose statements have been recorded,” he said.

Last Monday, Azam said four witnesses from PNB, Khazanah, and the Ministry of Finance had their statements taken to assist the case investigation.

On the same day, the MACC also raided the office of a local online fashion business and three other premises and confiscated various documents for an investigation conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
