MSQH-accredited Private Hospitals In Melaka Set To Spur Medical Tourism Sector

08/11/2024 05:07 PM

MELAKA, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The Full Accreditation Certification by the Malaysia Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) awarded to all four private hospitals in Melaka will serve as a catalyst to propel the medical tourism subsector in the future.

State Health, Human Resources, and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the accreditation is an assurance that these private hospitals can provide facilities and quality of service on par with developed countries, in line with the accreditation standards which stipulates that a patient’s safety must be prioritised and given due attention.

“Hospital accreditation certification is an assessment process of service standards for both government and private hospitals, based on the established quality standards and criteria at the national level, and by the authorised body, MSQH.

“This recognition is vital to ensure that healthcare services in Melaka remain at the highest level, especially for private hospitals, which attract medical tourists, particularly from Indonesia,” he told reporters here today.

He said this after witnessing the MSQH Full Accreditation Certification presentation ceremony by MSQH chief executive officer Datuk Dr Heric Corray to the chief executive officer of Putra Specialist Hospital Melaka, Mohd Zahiruddin Ahmad.

The accreditation is valid for four years, effective from July 30, 2024, to July 29, 2028.

Putra Specialist Hospital Melaka is the fourth private hospital to receive MSQH accreditation, after Pantai Hospital, Mahkota Medical Centre and Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre which were awarded the same accreditation earlier.

Ngwe said the accreditation serves as a benchmark for all private hospitals involved, ensuring that these entities provide efficient services and strengthen efforts toward continuous improvement in various aspects, including work procedures, facilities and technology used.

At the same time, he said the accreditation obtained by the private hospitals is considered as an added value to Melaka as it prepares to host the World Tourism Day (WTD) and the World Tourism Conference (WTC) in September next year.

He urged all hospitals to take the opportunity to promote healthcare services or treatments offered during the week-long international programme, to attract medical tourists from around the world and realising the state government’s aspiration to become a global tourism destination.
