Rosnah's Passing Significant Loss To Journalism, Politics And Corporate Sector - Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Datuk Rosnah Abd Majid’s passing is a significant loss to journalism, politics, and the corporate sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid described the late Datuk Rosnah as a close friend and a highly respected figure.

He said his political secretary, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, had represented him in visiting her family at her home in Taman Melawati this morning.

"He extended my condolences to her family, including her sister, Dr Hjh Meriyam Majid, former CEO of GiatMARA, who is also a close friend of mine.

"May Allah SWT bless her soul and grant her a place among the righteous, rewarding her with paradise. Al-Fatihah," said Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO President. 

The late Rosnah, 71, who spent 20 years with Utusan Malaysia from 1977, passed away at her sister’s home in Teluk Bahang, Penang, at 9.30 am yesterday.

Her remains were brought to Kuala Lumpur and laid to rest at the Klang Gate Muslim cemetery at 10 am today.

Born in 1953 in Sungai Pial, Merbok, Kedah, Rosnah was the first recipient of the Anugerah Kajai in 1984.

She served as state assemblywoman for the Tanjung Dawai constituency after defeating the PAS candidate in the 1999 General Election. 

She also held the position of Kedah Wanita UMNO Liaison Committee chief for the 2000/2003 term.

In 2007, Rosnah was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Communication and Modern Languages at Universiti Utara Malaysia, for a year.
