KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Anugerah Seni Negara (ASN) 2024, the highest government accolade for individuals with outstanding contributions in artistic fields, can elevate local artists to international recognition.
Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture’s Policy Division (Culture) undersecretary Wan Azilawati Wan Mahmood said the award, organised by the ministry, aims to nurture artists who will create masterpieces as national treasures.
“We hope this recognition will inspire arts practitioners to continue producing high-quality works. This acknowledgement not only enriches the social fabric but also contributes to the economy,” she said when appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Apa Khabar Malaysia programme today.
The ASN 2024 will feature four categories, namely Anugerah Seniman Negara and the Special ASN 2024 Awards: Biduan Negara, Anugerah Karyawan Seni and Anugerah Pendukung Seni.
“Applications are screened rigorously, and nominees must have at least 25 years of experience in their respective fields. They should also be mentors who can guide and contribute to the nation’s artistic legacy.
“Nominations opened at the end of last year and closed in February 2024. The process has been conducted with utmost care to ensure every decision is indisputable,” she said.
Wan Azilawati said the awards ceremony will be held at a hotel in the federal capital tomorrow night, with recipients set to receive substantial prizes reflecting their contributions to the nation.
The recipient of Anugerah Seniman Negara will receive a cash prize of RM60,000, a national attire, a certificate and a trophy, MOTAC’s Seniman Tamu status, incentives to continue their work and lifelong access to first-class treatment at government hospitals.
For the Special ASN 2024 Awards: Biduan Negara, the recipient will receive RM30,000 in cash, a songket fabric, a certificate, a trophy and the Seniman Tamu status, while the recipient of the Anugerah Karyawan Seni will be awarded RM30,000 in cash, a certificate and a trophy.
For the Anugerah Pendukung Seni, the recipient will receive RM10,000 in cash, a certificate and a trophy.
The ASN has been held in eight editions, starting in 1993, with subsequent editions in 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006 and the last in 2009.
Past recipients of Anugerah Seniman Negara include Tan Sri Dr Jins Shamsudin (Acting & Filmmaking), Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Nawab (Music) and Abdul Rahman Abu Bakar (Traditional Theatre).
