ALOR SETAR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Kedah government has expressed its appreciation to the federal government for the Budget 2025 allocation, which includes initiatives that will benefit the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the national budget, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last month, outlined funding for new projects to be prioritised according to the state’s needs.

“Alhamdulillah, for Kedah, two development projects in Kulim district have been listed, namely the expansion of the Kulim Hi-Tech Park, which houses global semiconductor companies, and the construction of an additional block for Kulim Hospital,” he said during the tabling of the Kedah Budget 2025 at the state legislative assembly here today.

He said Kedah would also benefit from infrastructure development projects, including the construction of a flyover in Changlun town.

“In addition, there are plans to upgrade roads from Jalan Langgar junction to Kepala Batas junction, as well as the construction of a new school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Semeling,” he said.

Muhammad Sanusi also thanked the federal government for providing RM13 million flood relief assistance through the Kedah State Development Office (ICU).

“Of this amount, RM3 million has been allocated to repair infrastructure damaged by floods in Kota Setar district,” he said.

He highlighted that Kedah experienced three flood incidents between Sept 17 and Oct 16, severely impacting the people and the state’s economy, damaging infrastructure, padi fields and agricultural land.

The losses from the floods were estimated at RM12 million, he added.

Muhammad Sanusi said 114 flood hotspots had been identified across the state, and the government, through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, would implement flood mitigation projects to reduce the risk in these areas.
