KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Education (MOE) today launched the Duta Sahsiah Kit, a government initiative aimed at fostering character development among students and addressing discipline issues in schools.
The nationwide launch, which involved 10,235 schools, 146 district education offices (PPD), 16 state education departments, and nearly five million students, was officiated by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek at the HGH Convention Centre in Sentul here.
Speaking at the event, Fadhlina said the initiative was a continuation of efforts by the MOE and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which introduced the Duta Sahsiah Pemangkin Pembentukan Karakter Karamah Insaniah programme in October last year.
“The launch of the Duta Sahsiah Kit is an initiative aimed at empowering students appointed as ‘duta sahsiah’, who serve as positive role models by promoting values such as discipline, integrity, and responsibility to influence their peers in a positive manner.
“It has been developed through careful planning and contains numerous training modules and reference materials, which cover aspects of communication, leadership, and problem-solving,” she said.
In addition, Fadhlina explained that the kit contained posters, flyers, and activity cards, which could be used to engage students in a creative and effective approach.
She expressed hope that with the launch of the kit, students would adopt values like integrity, responsibility, and respect as the foundation of their decisions and actions, particularly in light of rampant social problems.
“As Education Minister, I am deeply concerned by the issues facing our children, including suicide, mental health, bullying, and sexual harassment,” she said.
“This phenomenon is not new, but the influence of information technology and social media has increased and this shift requires us to no longer view this issue in the old way,” she said.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, in his speech at the event, expressed PDRM’s full support for the initiative, saying it would inspire and positively influence students.
He said that PDRM had developed a crime awareness module addressing issues like sexual offences and gangsterism among children and teenagers, and hoped that it would complement the initiative.
