28/11/2024 09:24 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) will leverage the ASEAN platform when Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chair next year to strengthen and promote the local craft industry to regional and international markets while simultaneously elevating the country's cultural heritage on the global stage.

MOTAC secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman said that the ministry has identified potential communities that can be assisted by improving product design and quality to preserve local crafts.

He said the ministry hopes to forge close cooperation with ASEAN member countries to enhance strategies to market local craft products regionally and globally.

“We must learn from ASEAN countries on how they push their craft products to international markets,” he told Bernama after a briefing session on the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) with local and foreign media here today.

He stated that MOTAC has organised various programmes focused on increasing the production of quality handicraft products, particularly among single mothers and the B40 group.

Roslan stressed that the chairmanship will open new opportunities for Malaysia to introduce high-quality local handicrafts to the global market.
