KUALA KRAI, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- More than 3,000 residents living in five villages across the Kuala Nal River here have started their daily activities after being stranded for almost a week due to floods.

The five villages are Pasir Kelang Lama, Pasir Kelang Baru, Buyong, Tako Blok and Tako Estate.

A resident from Kampung Pasir Kelang Baru, Ain Syafiqah Mohd Zuki, 25, said that as the water of the Kuala Nal river began to recede, she was able to carry out her daily routine as usual and buy basic necessities that had run out.

"The river current is still strong but the villagers can use the boat service for RM2 one way to cross the Kuala Nal River to the Kuala Krai town.

"We have been besieged in this village for almost a week, some of the house supplies have run out so I can go out to the town to buy rice, mineral water and so on," she said when met by Bernama today.

Truck driver Nabawi Ismail, 39, said he was grateful when the boat service could be used to cross the river because it made it easier for him to work.

Kampung Pasir Kelang Federal Village Security Development Committee (JPKKP) chairman Roslan Mamat said during the floods last Wednesday, only one temporary evacuation centre was opened in Pasir Kelang to accommodate 170 people from 49 families.

"Alhamdulillah, everything is in good condition and the supply of goods provided by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) is sufficient for the use of flood victims," he said.

According to the JKM Disaster Info Portal, a total of five relief centres were opened in Kuala Krai, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Banggol Guchil, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Keroh, Kuala Pertang Mosque, Sungai Tasan Kuala Pertang Community Hall and Madrasah Manek Urai Lama involving a total of 813 people from 255 families as of 12 noon today.
