SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will officiate the opening of the Klang Chinese Muslim Jamek Mosque in Bandar Botanik, Klang, near here tomorrow.
In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office shared that the mosque’s construction was inspired by a mosque the Sultan visited in Xi’an, China, during his 2015 trip.
The mosque, one of the oldest in China, left a lasting impression on His Royal Highness with its historical significance and architectural beauty.
Moved by the mosque's design and history, the Sultan envisioned a similar structure for Selangor, specifically a Chinese Muslim mosque," the statement read.
The Sultan also recommended a delegation from the Selangor government visit Xi’an to study the mosque's design for inspiration.
The mosque, which can accommodate 1,000 worshippers, was completed on July 11, 2024 and officially opened on Aug 22.
Located on a 2.98-acre site, the mosque features a unique dome-less design and is situated in the Royal City of Klang, which also houses the Sultan Sulaiman Royal Mosque and other places of worship, including temples, churches and the Gurdwara Sahib.
"His Highness hopes that the presence of diverse religious sites in Klang will foster mutual understanding and respect among followers of different faiths, both within the city and throughout Selangor," the post read.
