KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) has launched the Takaful4All Disaster Relief Team as an initiative to assist communities affected by disasters, particularly floods.
Takaful Ikhlas General Bhd (Takaful IKHLAS) president and CEO, Datuk Rudy Rodzila Che Lamin who leads the team, said that this effort aims to provide immediate relief to communities in need and to educate the public on better preparedness for future disasters.
“This team is a strategic initiative by MTA involving volunteers from takaful companies. They will undergo intensive training from relevant authorities to ensure efficient disaster relief operations.
“The team will be based in Kuala Lumpur, with a target membership of 50 to 100 volunteers who will be trained in basic disaster relief skills through training modules conducted by professionals,” he said yesterday.
He said this after the launch of the Takaful4All Sustainability Day 2024, which was also attended by MTA CEO Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, Head of Retakaful Swiss Re Asia Ltd Marcel Omar Papp, and Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director Yusri Basri.
Rudy Rodzila, who is also the Interim Group President & CEO of MNRB Holdings Berhad, said that the training provided will cover skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue techniques and emergency logistics management.
“The team will also assist with post-disaster cleanup efforts, including at mosques, schools, and affected public spaces, as well as undertake infrastructure repair work based on needs and capacity,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on Takaful4All Sustainability Day 2024, Mohd Radzuan said takaful operators showcased sustainability-oriented products at their booths, reflecting the full support of various takaful operators in the industry for the event.
“Sponsors include AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd, Takaful IKHLAS, and Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad as Silver Sponsors, while Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Bhd and Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Bhd are Bronze Sponsors. Etiqa Takaful also contributed as a strategic partner for the programme.
"This event successfully attracted over 500 participants, comprising industry representatives and members of the public interested in supporting sustainability efforts. Various activities were organised, including the five-kilometre Green Hero Run, a Zero Waste Lifestyle workshop, and interactive exhibitions by several takaful operators,” he said.
He also expressed hope that such events could become an annual occurrence, as they raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation and resource conservation among takaful industry players.
“This programme is part of the Hijrah27 Strategic Thrust 8 (ST8) initiative, which focuses on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and highlights the industry’s commitment to sustainability efforts,” he added.
Mohd Radzuan also noted that this initiative is part of the Hijrah27 Working Group 4, which emphasizes the role of the takaful industry in advancing positive impacts on the environment and society.
