17/12/2024 06:19 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) and DSA Exhibition and Conference Sdn Bhd (DSA Sdn Bhd) today signed a memorandum of understanding to help raise the quality of higher education among children of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel.

Through the agreement, DSA Sdn Bhd will contribute RM100,000 to the DSA Scholarship Fund each time the biennial Defence Asia Services (DSA) and the National Security (NATSEC) Asia Exhibition is held, beginning from this year until 2030, and it will be used to help MAF and PDRM children who further their studies in UPNM.

The initial contribution of RM100,000 was made at this year's DSA NATSEC Asia exhibition.

The memorandum was signed by UPNM vice-chancellor Lt Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad and DSA Sdn Bhd director Datuk Azzat Kamaludin at a simple ceremony at the UPNM here today.

Meanwhile, Mardzuki said in his speech that the memorandum is a proactive measure in line with the university's aspirations to assist those in need, thus contributing to the development of high-quality human capital, particularly in the field of defence and security.

He said UPNM was committed to ensuring the programme runs smoothly for the benefit of eligible students, thus widening access for children of the country's security personnel to quality educational opportunities.

"I am confident that this collaboration will provide more opportunities for strategic cooperation in the future, not only in education but also in the development of advanced research, innovation and defence technology," he said.

Azzat, meanwhile, said DSA Sdn Bhd viewed the collaboration as an opportunity to revamp the way the industry contributed towards human capital for national development.

The initiative, he added, was not limited to financial support but also to nurturing the spirit, innovation, leadership and academic excellence among the children of the warriors and security officers who have and are serving to defend the country.

"We hope this can open the door for students to achieve success and provide meaningful contributions to Malaysia's progress," he said.
