MELAKA, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- The iconic Mega Aidilfitri Bazaar will move to Banda Hilir from its previous location on Jalan Hang Tuah this coming Ramadan, offering Muslims in Melaka a vibrant hub to prepare for Hari Raya.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the Aidilfitri bazaar would feature 230 stalls along Jalan Kota, with approximately 90 per cent of the applications having already been filled.
"This area, stretching from the front of A Famosa to the Stadthuys (Red Building), will host the Aidilfitri Bazaar for the first time this year to attract more visitors and tourists for Hari Raya shopping.
"The location is strategic as it will accommodate the Mega Aidilfitri Bazaar in Banda Hilir alongside shopping complexes, thereby providing an economic boost to all traders in the surrounding area," he told reporters today after opening the 2024 Melaka Heritage Cuisine Festival.
Present were State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman and the Historical Melaka City Council Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.
Ab Rauf said during the Aidilfitri bazaar operation, other nearby tourist attractions, including museums, will also open on weekends to attract visitors and tourists during Ramadan.
He assured that bazaar visitors would not face parking issues, as there are about 4,000 parking spaces available in the Banda Hilir and Melaka Raya areas.
In a separate development, he suggested expanding the Melaka Heritage Cuisine Festival to schools to ensure that the younger generation inherits the traditional culinary heritage of the state's diverse communities.
"This festival can be organised annually at schools to expose the younger generation to the heritage or traditional cuisines of Melaka's local communities," he said.
