Perhilitan Continues Efforts To Catch Tiger After Livestock Attack In Ulu Kinta, Perak

IPOH, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) is continuing efforts to track down a tiger, believed to have attacked livestock belonging to residents near Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Choh, Ulu Kinta, on Dec 26.

Its director, Yusoff Shariff, said that an adult tiger has been spotted near the traps set up around the attack site.

“We found evidence showing that the tiger had approached the traps around the attack area, based on some footprints left behind,” he said.

“Monitoring will continue, and Perhilitan will maintain the trap locations in the area,” he added when contacted by Bernama today.

On Dec 26, Perhilitan confirmed a tiger attack on livestock in the area after finding the predator’s paw prints near the incident site.

Yusoff said that the primary reason the tiger has been roaming and entering residential areas is the decline in the wild boar population, caused by the African Swine Fever virus.

"However, according to Perhilitan Perak's records, the presence of tigers around this area (near Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Choh) has occurred even before the outbreak of the virus," he said.

In the meantime, he urged residents to monitor their livestock and ensure they are not left to roam freely, particularly in areas where the attack took place.

"It is advisable to keep livestock in pens and never let them roam freely, as this increases the risk of another attack," he added.

He also advised people who use routes near the attack area to be cautious and avoid going out alone, especially at night.

"If you encounter or spot the tiger, do not take any actions that could increase the risk. Instead, report the incident to us," he said.
