KOTA BHARU, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP) has set a target to increase the number of women entrepreneurs in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.

Its deputy secretary-general (Policy and Monitoring), Noor Afifah Abdul Razak, said currently, there are 1.1 million MSME entrepreneurs nationwide.

She added that the government’s is commited to reinforcing MSMEs as the backbone of the national economy by prioritising the involvement of women entrepreneurs, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that advocate gender equality.

“Various initiatives have been implemented, including entrepreneurial training, digital skills development, and improved access to financing and markets.

“The National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 also ensures equal opportunities for women to enter the entrepreneurial field, which holds immense potential as a career choice. Moreover, the contribution of MSMEs to the nation’s economy has shown consistent growth annually,” she said at the graduation ceremony for the IDEAS Project held here today.

Commenting on the IDEAS Project, Noor Afifah said the programme is an ASEAN initiative in collaboration with the Republic of South Korea, aimed at enhancing digital skills among women entrepreneurs in MSMEs.

“Nearly 3,000 women MSME entrepreneurs from across ASEAN have participated in this programme, including 242 from Malaysia. This six-month programme has provided immense benefits through its structured training modules,” she said.

She further shared that the Korean Republic plans to invite project participants to an entrepreneurship expo in the country by 2026.

“KUSKOP is confident that the IDEAS Project will empower more women entrepreneurs in MSMEs to expand their business potential using digital tools and e-commerce platforms more effectively.

“Many entrepreneurs are already leveraging digital platforms like Lazada, Shopee, TikTok and Instagram to broaden their customer base,” she added.

Noor Afifah also highlighted that a structured transition to digital platforms would enable entrepreneurs to reach customers not just within Malaysia but also across ASEAN.
