KUCHING, 13 Jan (Bernama) -- Sarawak aims to intensify efforts to secure funding for transformative energy projects this year towards achieving a clean energy capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW) and 15GW by 2035.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state will engage with international financial institutions and global partners, leveraging green funds and strategic partnerships to drive Sarawak’s transition to a cleaner as well as a more resilient future.

“Sarawak is not just participating in the energy transition, but we are shaping it,” he said in his speech at the Majlis Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre here today.

As the state government is approaching the final year of Phase One of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), he said all agencies must remain focused and dedicated to ensuring the execution of programmes and projects are expedited and implemented efficiently.

Abang Johari also called upon all parties to align the state government’s efforts with the key priorities of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), spanning the period of 2026-2030.

“Our efforts under the 13MP will remain multifaceted towards achieving the high-impact outcomes outlined in PCDS 2030.

“Hence, the 13MP emphasis will be on enhancing economic resilience through transformation and diversification, advancing digital transformation, fostering social inclusivity, and ensuring sustainability and equitability for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, in his speech, said Sarawak continues to demonstrate its ability to generate high income as it achieves a revenue of RM14.2 billion for 2024, surpassing the initial target of RM12.7 billion.

He said under Abang Johari’s leadership for the past eight years, the state’s revenue has doubled from RM5.6 billion in 2017.
