AGC Advises All Parties To Respect Court Proceedings In Najib's Judicial Review

13/01/2025 06:59 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has advised all parties today to respect the court proceedings concerning Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's application for judicial review at the High Court.

In a statement today, the AGC informed that during today’s case management, the High Court issued directions concerning the filing of affidavits for the substantive judicial review application.

Additionally, the High Court issued instructions to the respondents concerning the filing of applications for a protection order and a gag order.

The court also directed the parties requesting a watching brief to file a notice of application to attend the proceedings, along with the relevant affidavit filings.

Najib, 71, is seeking a mandamus order for the respondents to provide a response and confirm the existence of an alleged additional document dated Jan 29, 2024, which purportedly allows him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison sentence under house arrest.

The first case management was scheduled today at the High Court, following the Court of Appeal's granting of Najib's appeal, resulting in the case being remitted to the High Court to be heard on its merits.

"The High Court has set the next case management to be conducted via e-Review on March 11, 2025. In this regard, all parties are requested to respect the court proceedings," the statement read.

Najib has named the Minister of Home Affairs, the Commissioner General of Prisons, the Attorney General, the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya; the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), the Director General of the Legal Affairs Division in the Prime Minister's Department, and the Government of Malaysia as respondents.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun, and Datuk Seri Zulkifli Noordin have requested to act as watching brief on behalf of opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, PAS vice president Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Bersatu vice president Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.
