ALOR SETAR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Kedah State Health Department (JKN) seized various products containing scheduled poisons, unregistered products and non-notified cosmetics through ‘Op Asing’ raids on several shops in Sungai Petani last Thursday.
The operation, involving 25 pharmacy enforcement officers and two police officers, took place at six shops operated by Bangladeshi nationals.
Kedah Health director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the operation led to the seizure of 75 types of scheduled poison products, 79 unregistered products, and 75 non-notified cosmetic products estimated to be worth over RM63,000.
Initial investigations revealed that these premises did not have any licenses from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the seized products were believed to be intended for sale in the local market.
The cases are being investigated under the Poisons Act 1952 and the Sale of Drugs Act 1952.
He said the Ministry of Health advises the public to exercise caution when buying any health and cosmetic products sold online notably and to ensure that health and cosmetic products purchased in the market always comply with the laws in force.
He added that consumers also need to ensure that the health products purchased have the Farmatag™️ Hologram security sticker and Product Registration Number (MAL).
He said the public can check the validity of the product registration number and cosmetic notification by visiting the website https://www.npra.gov.my or by contacting the National Pharmacy Regulatory Agency at 03-78835400.
Apart from that, the public can also download the ‘NPRA Product Status’ application for checking.
“Consumers can also check the authenticity of the Farmatag™️ hologram found on the product box via FarmacheckerTM application which can also be downloaded for free,” he said.
He said any complaints and information can be channelled to the Pharmacy Services Programme via the website www.pharmacy.gov.my or via the Public Complaints Management System (SisPAA) at http://moh.spab.gov.my or any nearby Pharmacy Enforcement Branch or via the line 03-78413200 so that appropriate action can be taken to combat the sale of such products in the market.
