PENAMPANG, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, through its agency TEKUN Nasional, will establish Malaysia's first TEKUN TikTok Shop studio here, says Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said that the studio, located at the TEKUN Penampang Branch Office, was currently undergoing renovations and set to be inaugurated on Feb 16.
"This is a government initiative through my ministry in collaboration with TikTok Malaysia to introduce a new way of doing business for Sabah.
"While some entrepreneurs are already accustomed to selling products and services online via their social media, we aim to simplify the process by providing a dedicated studio," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the TEKUN Nasional Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar here today.
Ewon said that the establishment of the TEKUN TikTok studio in Penampang served as a pilot project before being expanded nationwide.
"I hope this fully equipped studio, supported by a major platform like TikTok Malaysia, will address the needs of our entrepreneurs, particularly in Sabah.
"We are starting with one studio in Sabah and will evaluate its success before rolling out similar facilities in every state across the country," he added.
He also announced plans for another studio to be built soon at TEKUN's Kuala Lumpur headquarters.
Regarding guidelines for using the studio, Ewon said that TikTok Malaysia and TEKUN Nasional had already conducted courses for several entrepreneurs, and that it would continue moving forward.
Ewon noted that Sabah was chosen as the first location for the TEKUN TikTok studio because he envisioned it as a high-income state, moving away from being associated with high poverty rates.
"The ministry and its agencies will continue to fulfil their mandate of developing the entrepreneurship and cooperative sectors nationwide through new initiatives tailored to current needs and circumstances," he said.
