PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The Community Development Department (KEMAS) is conducting a comprehensive study on upgrading and rehabilitating KEMAS kindergartens nationwide.
Director-general Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man said the study aligns with the directive from Deputy Prime Minister, and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, instructing the department to prepare a memorandum on the matter to the Cabinet.
He added that the study would cover physical improvements taking into account policy aspects such as land ownership, the status of publicly shared buildings, particularly community halls, and methods for obtaining suitable commercial buildings to be converted into KEMAS kindergartens.
"We aim to propose a holistic solution to ensure early childhood education, especially in rural areas, that is better organised and secure," he said in a statement.
He emphasised the need to prioritise electricity and water supply in remote areas, which would involve examining government initiatives, such as the use of solar panels, rainwater harvesting tanks, or groundwater systems, to effectively address these basic needs.
He added that KEMAS is committed to providing conducive physical facilities and access to quality early childhood education for children in rural areas, ensuring they have the same opportunities as their urban counterparts.
