KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil has been reappointed as director-general (DG) of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) for a three-year term, effective from Feb 3, 2025, to Feb 2, 2028.
IKIM, in a statement, announced that Mohamed Azam's reappointment was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“IKIM would like to express its gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for this reappointment. We are confident that under the leadership of Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam, IKIM will continue to elevate its standards of excellence and make a greater impact on society, both domestically and internationally,” the statement said.
Mohamed Azam, born on June 18, 1966, first assumed the role of IKIM's DG on Feb 3, 2022.
Holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Syariah and Law (Hons) from Universiti Malaya (UM), Mohamed Azam then continued his postgraduate studies until obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in law in 2007, from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom.
His academic career began at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), where he served from 1990 to 2020. He also held the position of deputy chief executive officer at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia, from April 1, 2013, to Feb 6, 2022.
Additionally, he served as the chairman of the Syariah Committee at CIMB Group from 2014 to 2017.
