GEORGE TOWN, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Three additional ferry services (three extra trips) will be introduced to facilitate the movement of visitors in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (Pai Ti Kong) celebration at Pengkalan Weld on Feb 5.
Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said following the programme, the SPPP had received an official application from the state government and George Town World Heritage Incorporated to coordinate the ferry service trips on that day.
"The three additional trips will operate from Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) in George Town to Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) in Butterworth at 12 midnight, 12.30 midnight and 1am. The initiative was taken to ensure the smooth movement of visitors who attend the programme," he said in a statement today.
He said it is hoped that the additional facilities would help ease the journey of visitors and ensure that the celebration progress smoothly.
The celebration organised by the state government in collaboration with Chew Jetty Penang is scheduled to start from 7pm to 12 midnight at Pengkalan Weld.
Pai Ti Kong is celebrated on the 9th day of Chinese New Year for generations by mainly Hokkeins.
