Number Of Flood Victims Drops in Sarawak, Increases In Sabah As Of 4 pm

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims taking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sarawak has decreased, while the figure in Sabah has increased as of 4 pm today.

In SARAWAK, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of victims dropped to 5,281 from 5,747 this morning, with 29 PPS operating across six divisions.

Bintulu still has the highest number of evacuees, with 1,889 people compared to 1,966 this morning, followed by Miri with 1,291 (down from 1,404), Sibu and Samarahan remained unchanged at 848 and 294 victims, respectively, while Serian recorded a decrease to 507 from 792.

In Mukah, the number of evacuees increased to 452 this afternoon from 443 reported earlier, and three PPS, namely one in Bintulu and two in Miri, were closed as flood conditions improved.

Meanwhile, in SABAH, the number of flood victims rose to 201 people from 53 families this afternoon, up from 137 people from 40 families this morning.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that Kinabatangan is the only district still affected by floods.

The PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sukau is sheltering 71 victims from 19 families, while SK Bukit Garam is housing 130 victims from 34 families.
