GEORGE TOWN, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Within five hours, 20 yellow-shirt heroes of the Penang City Council (MBPP) collected 4,400 kg of waste from a house in the Barat Daya district near here yesterday.

MBPP, in a statement posted on its official Facebook today, said six large lorries were used to dispose of the rubbish in the integrated operation codenamed Op Bersih. The operation started with officers from the Barat Daya District Health Office destroying breeding spots for disease-carrying insects.

It said that on Oct 7 last year, the Health Office issued a notice under Section 8 of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 to the house resident, adding that the clean-up operation was carried out when other residents in the area raised concerns about their health and safety.

“The occupant was charged a service fee of RM2021.74 for all the work involved in collecting, transporting, and disposing of the rubbish, completed at 1.30 pm.

“They have been warned not to bring any more waste into their property and were told to manage the disposal of the remaining waste immediately,” it said, adding that follow-up action would be taken against the occupant if they failed to do so.
