Construction Of RTS Link Phase One Infrastructure Completed At End Of Jan - Loke

13/02/2025 04:40 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project involving the construction of phase one of the railway track infrastructure has been fully completed as of the end of last month.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said railway infrastructure access was granted to OpCo on Sept 30, 2024, to enable system installation work to begin.

He said a key milestone in the RTS Link Concession Agreement (CA) was also achieved last December when InfraCo MY (MRTS Sdn Bhd) provided OpCo (RTS Operations Pte Ltd) with access to the main RTS Link railway infrastructure, including the Maintenance Depot, Bukit Chagar Station as well land and marine bridges.

"This includes the installation of various main systems, including track works, power supply and distribution, telecommunications, signalling systems, platform screen doors as well as fare collection or automatic gate systems,” he said.

He said this at a media conference after the Joint Venture Agreement Signing Ceremony for the Integrated Property Development at Bukit Chagar between Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) and Sunway Integrated Properties Sdn Bhd here today.

Loke, meanwhile, said the main targets for this year are the power distribution at the depot and the full completion of the depot, both scheduled for June.

He also said that the main focus of the RTS Link development this year includes starting the installation of the station facade at Bukit Chagar Station.

“In addition, installation work to prepare access to the Woodlands North Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex will begin by April.

"This will be followed by the power distribution at Wadihana Depot by June 30, (and) access for Malaysian and Singaporean agencies to the CIQ Complex by August,” he said.

He added that external works on the RTS Link are expected to be completed by the end of this year while the full completion of the station is expected by Feb 28, 2026.

The RTS Project is scheduled to be completed in December 2026 and start operating in early 2027, where the RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar to Woodlands North and the journey will take just five minutes.

The RTS Link is a four-kilometre rail network connecting Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore

MRT Corp is responsible for developing the 2.7-kilometre section of the rail network and structure on Malaysia's side, with the operation being a joint effort with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Singapore’s SMRT Corp Ltd.

The RTS Link will serve as the third land bridge to Singapore and is expected to further ease congestion on the Johor Causeway, which has a peak capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
