CHERAS, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The remains of a former journalist from Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd, Muhammad Basir Abu Bakar, were laid to rest at the Batu 10 Muslim Cemetery here at 12.30 pm.
The final rites were performed at Masjid Taman Taming Jaya in Balakong at 9.37 am.
The funeral of the 45-year-old former journalist was attended by family members, friends, and media colleagues.
The late journalist's sister, Siti Salha Abu Bakar, 40, told Bernama that he was a kind brother who always fought for his siblings' and colleagues' rights and needs.
She also expressed her gratitude to relatives and friends who attended and assisted with the funeral arrangements.
"Alhamdulillah, all funeral arrangements went smoothly. He passed away peacefully. The children are strong, although they are saddened," she said.
Yesterday, Siti Salha, when contacted by Bernama, informed that her brother, who had heart disease, passed away at 6.45 pm at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang due to chronic health issues.
Muhammad Basir is survived by three children aged between 10 and 15 years, while his wife, Nor Azlina Jaafar, also a former photographer at the Utusan Group, passed away on Oct 17, 2023.
Muhammad Basir was also one of the recipients of the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA aid, which was presented by the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil.
