JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- The implementation of Bangsa Johor pilot school (SRBJ) in four schools will be evaluated within six months to a year," said Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin.
He said that monitoring of the students involved would be carried out every month to ensure its smoothness and effectiveness.
"I am confident and believe that the teachers are committed to helping and mobilising SRBJ, in terms of monitoring learning is indeed carried out every month.
"It does not only involve monitoring at the Johor State Education Department level, but also my office, this is to ensure that it is implemented well in these selected schools," he said at a press conference after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Kota Puteri 4, here today.
He said the implementation of SRBJ officially began today, involving 2,574 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tasek Utara, SMK Seri Kota Puteri 2 Masai, SK Tasek Utara Johor Bahru and SK Seri Kota Puteri 4.
Aznan said his party would also hold an engagement session with the parents of the students involved on Feb 20 regarding the wishes and objectives of the implementation of SRBJ.
"The first phase of learning will proceed as usual and it will not interfere with the syllabus of the Ministry of Education (MOE), as some learning methods will be added.
"Only for this phase, an engagement session with parents will be held so that they understand what the state government's intentions are regarding SRBJ," he said.
He said that an estimated 90 SRBJ teachers in the four schools involved will be sent to undergo training at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore next April.
According to him, the number is part of the 212 teachers involved in undergoing training in stages in the republic.
Aznan was previously reported to have said that the Phase 1 group of SRBJ teachers and leadership team had gone to Singapore on Feb 10.
He said SRBJ places emphasis on mastering of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and English, with students required to complete at least 112 hours of classes in STEM subjects each year compared to at least 64 hours in other schools.
According to him, the state government's efforts to implement SRBJ are in line with the directive of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, to improve the quality, system and facilities of education in Johor, in addition to updating the existing subject syllabus.
