MIMOS Junior Academy To Foster Early Interest In STEM

21/02/2025 03:50 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- MIMOS Kindergarten has been rebranded as MIMOS Junior Academy (MJA), to foster an early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), aligning with the national agenda to enhance STEM literacy.

The rebranding exercise also brings improvements by adopting a new STEM-based curriculum, specifically designed to provide a comprehensive, dynamic and innovative learning experience for young minds.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, officiated the ceremony held at MIMOS Berhad in Bukit Jalil, today.

The Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament then attended a briefing on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in MJA, before engaging with the children at the academy.

She also witnessed the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) documents between MIMOS Berhad and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). MJA collaborates with UPSI's National Child Development Research Centre (NCDRC) to implement its new curriculum.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim stressed that STEM education remains a key focus for the ministry, adding that any initiative to integrate STEM learning at the preschool level is highly encouraged.

“STEM education plays a crucial role in shaping a future-ready workforce. We actively encourage more students to pursue STEM fields, to bridge the existing skills gap and enhance Malaysia's global competitiveness,” he said at the event.

In a statement, MOSTI highlighted that MJA adopts various innovative teaching approaches, including inquiry-based learning, to foster curiosity through questions and experiments, as well as play-based learning, which utilises games to enhance cognitive and motor skills.

Additionally, MJA integrates project-based learning (PBL), STEM integration, experiential learning, and technology-enhanced learning (TEL), to provide a dynamic and immersive educational experience.
