IPOH, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will take stern action, including revoking licenses and blacklisting local traders found renting out or selling their Ramadan bazaar lots to foreign traders.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said there would be no compromise on any violations of the licensing conditions issued by the local authorities.
“In Perak, not only are foreign traders prohibited from operating in Ramadan bazaars, but local traders are also not allowed to employ foreign workers.
“I hope local traders who have been granted Ramadan bazaar lots will not abuse their licenses and comply with the existing regulations,” she told a press conference after visiting several hotel premises in Ipoh that have implemented the local service charge under the Perak Hotel Enactment 2023, here today.
Previously, the media reported that the Kedah, Kelantan, and Negeri Sembilan state governments would implement stricter enforcement measures to ensure that no foreign workers or traders are operating in Ramadan bazaars.
Meanwhile, Sandrea said the Perak government aims to register 1,000 accommodation premises by the end of the legalisation period and ensure all operators complete the licensing process by June 30 this year.
She said as part of the effort to enhance understanding and ensure the seamless implementation of the Perak Hotel Enactment 2023, local authorities across the state are actively conducting public engagement sessions with premise owners and hotel operators within their respective jurisdictions.
“It is crucial to emphasise that under the enactment, no entity is permitted to operate a hotel without a valid license from the Licensing Authority.
“The state government’s stance is clear; every operator must be registered under this enactment, and enforcement action will be carried out by local authorities once the legalisation period ends.
“Therefore, premise owners or operators who are still considering whether to obtain valid licenses under this enactment are advised to refer to their respective local authorities and follow the prescribed procedures immediately,” she said.
